Find Yourself by Traveling Solo

Although travel is inherently full of adventure, there is nothing quite as exhilarating as flying off to a new country completely solo. Best put by English author Lisa St. Aubin de Terán, “Traveling is like flirting with life. It’s like saying, ‘I would stay and love you, but I have to go; this is my station.”

Here is a perfect list of destinations which you must visit solo:

Costa Rica:

Costa Rica

Costa Rica could be considered the capital of adventure. If there’s one thing for sure, it’s that you’ll spend a great deal of your time outdoors exploring, enjoying the scenery, soaking up the sun, and getting back in touch with nature. Think zip lines, hot springs, hiking, kayaking… just to name a few. This is also one of (if not the most) safest countries to visit in Central America, filled with expats and wandering souls.

New Zealand:

New Zealand

New Zealand didn’t inspire the landscape in The Lord of the Rings (and countless other adventure movies) for nothing: the country’s wild, rugged islands and ultimately unspoiled nature attract visitors from everywhere.

I would add to this list Vietnam, an amazing place with nice and friendly people. I’ve stayed there for one month for a solo traveler and had a fantastic experience last year. From tourist-friendly rural Ireland to the serene islands of Vietnam, solo vacations can be an excellent way to explore a new culture, enjoy some time to yourself, and experience some of the world’s most vibrant cities and stunning scenery.

Although Dubai is a cosmopolitan city with a huge international population made up of diverse backgrounds, religions, and nationalities, everyone gets along well. You can explore the city on your own and feel quite safe! However, you should always respect the conservative culture and cover up when you’re not on the beach.

With a great backpacking culture for young people, budget travelers will always find someone to hang out with. And with all those beautiful beaches, you bet there are some incredible resorts for a little bit of luxe. You’ll be so busy relaxing and soaking up the Balinese culture, you will forget you ever worried about going alone.

I know there are so many places, which I didn’t cover in the list. Please suggest few offbeat destinations for a backpacker.

  1. I’ve been a lot of places, but not these! Gorgeous pictures. My daughter went to Costa Rica with a friend and loved it. My husband and I travel together – not sure if I’d have the cajones to do a solo at my age!
Thanks for following my blog – I’m honored – stop by any time. We’re off to Europe for June, so I will have lots of travel pictures for my blog when I get back!
